Theomachy

Theomachy ( gr Θεομαχία, battle of the gods ) is commonly referred to the struggle between various gods or the rebellion against God. Theomachy is usually involved in the operations of the Theogony.

Example

Earliest example is the Mesopotamian or Babylonian creation myth Enuma Eliš. In this myth conquered the city god of Babylon, Marduk, the creator goddess Tiamat. After the death of Tiamat, he creates heaven and earth from Kingus body and the man from clay and its blood.

Hesiod in his Theogony reported on the struggles between the different generations of the Olympian gods.

Theomachy is also the elegant grounds of the deified Roman emperors for the persecution of Christians.
