Theon of Alexandria

Theon of Alexandria ( * 335, † about 405) was an ancient astronomer and mathematician. He is the last name handed down on the great library of Alexandria in the so-called Museion. Theon was the father of the mathematician and philosopher Hypatia.

Theon's most important work was the editorial publication of Euclid's Elements, 364; all Euclidean translations were known until the 19th century, based on its processing. Also known are his total elfbändigen comments on Ptolemy's Almagest.
