Théophile Aube

Hyacinthe Laurent Théophile Aube ( born November 22, 1826 in Toulon, † December 31, 1890 ibid ) was a French naval minister and governor of Martinique 1879-1881.

Life

Aube 1854 Commander. In the German -Prussian War 1870/71 he organized the defense of the Carentanlinie. In 1879 he obtained the post of the French governor of Martinique and returned back in 1881 as a rear admiral to France and was entrusted with the management of the torpedo system. He held the office of the French Navy Minister dated January 7, 1886 to May 30, 1887. 1886 he was promoted to Vice Admiral. He was a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour.

Aube explained the mindset of " Jeune École ", which represented the construction of smaller marine units at the expense of battleships.
