Theophilus Ebenhaezer Dönges

Theophilus Ebenhaezer Dönges ( born March 8, 1898 in Klerksdorp, † January 10, 1968 ) was a South African politician.

He was born in Klerksdorp, Transvaal, and was the son of a German - Dutch pastor. He studied at the Universities of Stellenbosch and London and in 1925 received his doctorate.

Dönges was a member of the National Party. For them he was a deputy since 1941 in the South African Parliament. After the election victory of the National Party in 1948, he belonged to the government. Initially he was interior minister and finance minister since 1958.

After 1967 Charles Robberts Swart had resigned from his position as President of South Africa for reasons of age, Donges was elected successor, but died before his inauguration. The Office was first incorporated Jozua François Naudé.
