Theophilus Siegfried Bayer

Gottlieb Siegfried Bayer ( * 1694 in Königsberg, † 1738 in Saint Petersburg ), also Theophil Siegfried Bayer, was a philologist, historian and Orientalist, one of the first graduates of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.

In the Russian historiography Bayer is regarded as the founder of the Scandinavian school. During his time in St. Petersburg, he took an active part in the work of the Academy and stood up for their free development.
