Thespis

Thespis (* 6th century BC in Ikaria, Attica ) was one of the first Greek tragic poet, theater director and actor in Athens. He was regarded in ancient times as the inventor of the drama, especially the tragedy.

Life

In the great Dionysia in Athens, he stepped between 536 BC and 533 BC when a tragedy competition in appearance. He led 534 BC, the first tragedy by ( with human masks) an actor for the first time faced the festivals to Dionysus ( Bakchosfesten ) singing and dancing chorus ( in the garb of Dionysus ). Unassigned from Greek sources, the news that Thespis was pulled with a traveling theater on a cart around. Horace reported Thespis was pulled around on a trolley. Therefore, the caravan migratory actor or their traveling theater in the figurative sense is also called Thespis.
