In the club

Thiago Motta is from a suburb of São Paulo and began his football career in the youth teams of the Brazilian Association CA Juventus São Paulo. In summer 1999, the 17 -year-old defensive midfielder has been committed from FC Barcelona. He played for two years in the B team of Barça before he completed on 3 October 2001, his first match against RCD Mallorca for the A- team. Due to numerous injuries and the strong competition in the midfield with Deco, Xavi, Iniesta and Edmilson he never was able to show off at the Catalans.

For the season 2007/ 08 he spent approximately two million euros to Atlético Madrid. His one-year contract was also due to frequent injuries, not renewed in the summer of 2008. He then moved up free transfer to Genoa in Italy. At Genoa he played 27 games in Serie A, in which he scored six goals.

In the 2009 summer break Inter Milan Motta committed for a transfer fee of 13 million euros. He signed a four-year contract until 30 June 2014. In return, Francesco Bolzoni, Leonardo Bonucci and Riccardo Meggiorini switched to the Genoese. His Serie A debut for Inter, he celebrated 23 August 2009 in a 1-1 draw at home to AS Bari. In his second competitive match Motta headed in the Derby della Madonnina with a hit to 4-0 win against AC Milan. On 28 April 2010, he met in the Champions League match against FC Barcelona Sergio Busquets with his hand in the face and was sent off with a red card. He was banned for two games and thus was missing on May 22 in the final against Bayern Munich.

During the winter break of 2011/12 Motta moved to Paris Saint- Germain.

In the National Team

His debut for the Brazilian national team gave Motta on 13 July 2003 during the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

On February 6, 2011, he was appointed by Cesare Prandelli for the game on 9 February 2011 against Germany in the Italian national football team. A day later, FIFA gave the green light for Mottas dressing changes, so he was allowed to be used against Germany. This was justified by the fact that Motta de facto had only played in a Brazilian U-23 selection and there, which had emigrated to South America because of his Italian grandfather, a kinship there are grounds for a change of the national team. On February 9, 2011 Motta made his debut in the match against Germany for the Italian national team. In a European Championship qualifier against Slovenia on 25 March 2011, he scored his first international goal for Italy.
