Thierry Champion
Thierry Champion ( born August 31, 1966 in Bagnols -sur -Cèze ) is a former French tennis player.
Life
Champion reached the quarterfinals, where he defeated, among others, Andrei Olchowski and Aaron Krickstein the junior tournament the French Open in 1983. The following year was the in the quarterfinals of the junior competition at the Australian Open, where he defeated Mark Kratzmann. In his professional career on the ATP World Tour, he won a tournament, his best result in 1988 was the singles final in Saint -Vincent, which he clearly lost to Kent Carlsson. On the ATP Challenger Tour, he was able to celebrate two tournament victories in his career. On August 26, 1991, he reached his highest placing 44th in the tennis world rankings.
His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open and Wimbledon. At the 1990 French Open he defeated, among others, Guy Forget and Karel Novacek, before he was clearly inferior to the eventual tournament winner Andrés Gómez in three sets. In 1991 he defeated at Wimbledon in the second round the previous tournament winner Pat Cash and lost to the defending champion Stefan Edberg. In the doubles competition, he stood twice in the second round of the French Open, he reached the Mixed there in 1989 the second round.
