Thil (Meurthe-et-Moselle)

Thil ( German: Thiel, Lorraine: Til ) is a commune with 1616 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

Neighboring municipalities are Hussigny- Godbrange in the north, Rédange in the north, Villerupt in the east, and Tiercelet in the south. In addition, Thil had a station on the railway line Valleroy - Villerupt.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1089 as Tileis.

During the Second World War was in the Thiel sub-camp of Thil Natzweiler -Struthof. Today reminds a memorial ( Crypte de Thil ) to the concentration camp.

Since 2001, Annie Silvestri 's mayor. In 2014 local elections.
