Thionyl chloride is a highly refractive colorless liquid, the dichloride of sulfur dioxide.
Properties
Thionyl chloride reacts violently with water and bases, as well as with some alcohols. When heated above 140 ° C it decomposes into sulfur dioxide, chlorine and sulfur.
