Thira (regional unit)

The Regional District of Thira (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Tiras Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Θήρας ) is one of 13 regional districts of the Greek region South Aegean. It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from six island communities of the former Cyclades Prefecture and corresponds exactly to the territory of the former province of Thira, which existed until 1997. Proportional to its 16,686 inhabitants sends the territory three deputies in the regional, but has no more political significance than local authority. It is divided today in the five municipalities Anafi, Folegandros, Ios, Sikinos and Thira.
