Thise

Thise is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Thise is located at 275 m, about 7 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The largest suburban town of Besançon in the Doubs Valley extends, in a slightly elevated position in a hollow on the northern edge of the valley, on the edge of the Forêt de Chailluz and on the northwestern edge of the Jura.

The area of ​​8.93 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, the multi-turn here flows through a maximum of 2 kilometers wide, flat Talniederung to the southwest and is accompanied by the Rhone-Rhine Canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the wide flood plain and the adjacent, 50 to 80 m high terrain level, in which the hollow of Thise is sunk, up to the high plateau. This averages to 320 m and is surrounded by a vast forest ( Forêt de Chailluz and Bois de Sassy ) covered. With 422 m is reached on a ridge of the Bois de Sassy in the extreme northeast of the area is the highest elevation of thise.

Neighboring communities of Thise are Braillans and Marchaux in the north, and Amagney Roche- lez -Beaupré in the east, and Chalèze Chalezeule in the south and Besancon in the West.

History

Various finds ( wall foundations, ceramics and bricks ) point out that the municipality of Thise was already inhabited during the Roman period. The first mention in writing Thise in 1090 under the name tysia. Over time, the spelling on Tisse, Thyze Tize and walked to the present Thise ( 1652). Already in 1119 a church in Thise is documentary evidence. Since 1140 Thise was the center of a dominion, which lasted until the late 14th century and was under the suzerainty of the Lords of Montfaucon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The present church of Saint- Hilaire -de- Poitiers was built in 1827. In the village you will find, among other things, a seat of power in the 18th century and a farm from the 16th century.

Population

With 3168 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Thise is one of the medium-sized municipalities in the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​350-440 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has more than quintupled. The settlement area, which extends along the northern slope of the valley of the sun-exposed Doubs, is now conjoined with that of Besançon.

Economy and infrastructure
