Thom Mayne

Thom Mayne ( born January 19, 1944 in Waterbury, Connecticut ) is an American architect. He founded the architectural firm Morphosis, where he still works today in 1972. His life's work was in 2005 with the Pritzker Prize for architecture, one of the world's most prestigious architecture prizes, appreciated.

Life

Thom Mayne studied architecture at the University of Southern California in 1968 where he earned a bachelor's degree. His Masters Degree he received in 1978 by the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He is a founding member of the Southern California Institute of Architecture ( SCI - Arc ).

Maynes architecture is characterized by complex geometrical shapes. His courageous style reflecting the " unique, somewhat rootless culture of Southern California ," it said on 20 March 2005 in the announcement of the Hyatt Foundation, that he would be this year's Pritzker Prize winner.

The Californian was supported by the Pritzker jury also as an innovator, "Product of the turbulent 1960s, " described as a " rebellious spirit and passion for change." Mayne, who is known for his explosive choleric temperament, adorn themselves happy with the conduct of the " Bad Boy " of architecture.

In 1987 he was awarded the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome.
