Thomas Adams (politician)

Thomas Adams (* 1730 in New Kent County, Virginia; † August 1788 at Augusta County, Virginia) was an American politician and businessman from Virginia.

Life

Adams attended community schools. He then worked as a Clerk of Henrico County. Then he went in 1762 to England, where he pursued his business until 1774. Before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, he returned to America. He became a member of the House of Burgesses of Virginia and signed as on 27 May 1774, the Articles of Association. In the same year he was also the chairman of the New Kent County Committee of Safety. Then he was from 1778 to 1779 Member of the Continental Congress where he signed the Articles of Confederation. In 1780 he moved to Augusta County. He was later elected to the Senate of Virginia, where he served from 1783 to 1786.

Adams died in 1788 at his estate " Cowpasture " in Augusta County.
