Thomas Burton Adams, Jr.

Thomas Burton Adams, Jr. ( born May 11, 1917 in Jacksonville, Florida, † 22 May, 2006 Live Oak, Florida ) was an American politician.

Career

After completing his school career, Adams enrolled at the University of Michigan. Shortly after, he married Helen Brown. Adams was active in the real estate and insurance industries.

His political career began when he was elected to the Senate from Florida. This he was a member from 1956 to 1960. Thereafter, he served ten years as Secretary of State of Florida. 1970 Adams was added to the campaign team of Reubin Askew, the Democratic candidate for the office of governor of Florida. In the case of an electoral success Askew promised him the post of Deputy Governor. Askew managed against the Republican candidate, Claude Roy Kirk, to enforce. Adams thus became the second vice-governor of his home state after the reintroduction of this office in 1969. On 5 January 1971 he was sworn.

Due to a scandal in Adams ' private life Askew decided not to exempt him again in his campaign team for his re-election, so that the end of his term of office was sealed so that on January 7, 1975. 1984 Adams tried yet a successful new entry in the political affairs when he ran for a seat in the Senate from Florida, but could not prevail against Tim Deratany itself, which received twice as many votes as Adams.

On the morning of May 22, 2006 Adams drove on Interstate 10 and crashed fatally. As it turned out later that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
