Thomas C. McCreery

Thomas Clay McCreery (* December 12, 1816 in Owensboro, Kentucky, † July 10, 1890 in Owensboro, Kentucky ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

After schooling McCreery took on a law degree. He graduated in 1837 at Centre College in Danville, was then added to the Bar Association and worked as a lawyer in Frankfort. Later he returned to his hometown of Owensboro, where he was also active as an author.

His first attempts to take political office were unsuccessful. It failed in 1842 at the election to the U.S. House of Representatives, two years later. In the years 1852, 1856 and 1860 he was elector in the Electoral College for the Democrats. On February 19, 1868 he finally became a U.S. senator when he was elected to succeed the retiring James Guthrie. He finished his until March 3, 1871 ending term of office, but missed the re-election. 1872, however McCreery returned to the second mandate seat of the State Kentucky in the Senate. After six years he left on March 3, 1879; for re-election he had not been provided.

Thomas McCreery withdrew from politics and lived first on his farm in Daviess County, before he returned to Owensboro, where he also died in 1890.
