Thomas Couture

Thomas Couture ( born December 21, 1815 in Senlis, Oise, † March 30, 1879 in Villiers- le -Bel, Ile -de -France ) was a French painter.

Life

Couture was the pupil of Antoine -Jean Gros and Paul Delaroche. He won early 1840s prestige, because he knew how to combine the elegance of the drawing, which was the classic French school intrinsically associated with an increased appeal of color and zest of illustration; they did not hesitate to call him a French Veronese and to build on its occurrence hope for the emergence of a large coloristic school.

His major work, The Romans of the expiration time ( in the Musée d' Orsay ), the triumph celebrated in the Salon of 1847 as hardly ever the work of a French painter before, WOULD as much by the great bravery of the drawing as indicated by the color, the muted glow with the fabric of the image blends. This picture went still ahead of some other works of the master, the same ideas and preferences, though not in the same development, show; so the young Venetians after an orgy, The Prodigal Son, The love of gold ( painted in 1844, at the Museum of Toulouse) and The Triumph of the courtesan.

Very well known in 1855 The Falconer; but Couture had done nothing more significant by its expiration time of the Romans. Taken his murals in the church of St- Eustache de Paris, the life of Mary, were vacuous and mannered. In contrast, his virtuoso technique caused a large influx of students, including those from Germany, so it was a very popular champion, especially in the 1850s. Among his pupils were Puvis de Chavannes, William Morris Hunt, Anselm Feuerbach, Édouard Manet, Marcellin Desboutin and later journalist and politician Antonin Proust.

At the age of 63 years Thomas Couture died on March 30, 1879 at his castle in Villiers- le -Bel, Ile -de -France.
