Thomas Crofton Croker

Thomas Crofton Croker ( born January 15, 1798 in Cork, † August 8, 1854 in London) was an Irish classical scholar. He devoted himself to the collection of old poetry and folklore of the Irish culture. He supported the establishment of the Percy and the Camden Society. Together with his wife he examined funeral and mourning rituals. His collection of fairy tales "Irish Fairy tales " ( "Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland " ) ( 1825-27 ) appeared in six editions and was in 1826 by the Brothers Grimm Translated into German. Croker died in 1854 and was buried in the cemetery at Brompton in London.
