Thomas Demand

Thomas Demand ( born 1964 in Munich) is an artist who faithfully reconstructs the scene and press photographs from paper, to photograph them then. Operation

His understanding of art

Demand does not see himself as a photographer, although this is his exhibition medium. At the same time he is also not exclusively modellers, as the focus of his artistic work on the photographic reproduction is such that it is best described as a reproducer of the media or an illusionist to understand.

Demand dealt earlier with sculptures, but then declined over to cheap materials, mainly paper and cardboard. So he could build his models in a day and therefore throw away without problems again. To document the incurred but quickly ephemeral sculptures, he began to photograph them.

Works and crime scene

  • Tunnel ( 1999) recalls a tracking shot through the tunnel where Diana Mountbatten -Windsor died.
  • Bathroom (1997 ), the enactment of the photograph that went around the world in connection with the death of Barschel.

Other works

The opened in May 2013 cultivation of the Lenbachhaus in Munich is decorated with a blue lettering Lenbachhaus before the gold-colored facade, the demand from an old copy of the 19th century combined with a moderenen.
