Thomas Dooley

Thomas " Tom" Dooley ( born December 5, 1961 in Bechhofen (Pfalz ), Germany ) is a retired German -American soccer player and coach.

Career

In youth Dooley played for TuS Eintracht 1912 Bechhofen and there came finally with the seniors in the county league used. He then worked in the premier league clubs TuS Landstuhl and FK Pirmasens. In the Bundesliga, Dooley played for FC 08 Homburg ( 31 games in the league - 16 goals, 75 games in the Bundesliga 2 - 18 goals, 48 league games - 2 goals ), 1 FC Kaiserslautern, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Schalke 04 199 games and scored 20 goals. He also played in Major League Soccer at Columbus Crew and together with Lothar Matthäus in the NY / NJ MetroStars.

With Kaiserslautern in 1990 he was German Cup winner and 1991 German Masters. After the 1994 World Cup, he joined Bayer Leverkusen and FC Schalke at which he joined a year later, he won the 1997 UEFA Cup.

Dooley is the son of an American soldier and a German mother. Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 1994 in the USA offered him the American Football Association to play for the national team of the United States. Dooley then attended and American citizenship, but he could keep his German citizenship.

In 1993 he played at the U.S. Cup for the States and scored two goals in the 3:4 defeat against Germany.

For the U.S., he took part in the World Championships in 1994 and 1998. Overall, Dooley played 81 international matches for the USA, scoring seven goals. In the Football World Cup 1998, he was captain of the team. For the first time he had held this position within the team during the match against Ecuador in August 1997.

In the years 2002 and 2003, Dooley was employed for a short time at the 1 FC Saarbrücken as a coach and sporting director.

Together with Christian Titz and his brother Steven Dooley 2002 he established Dooley Soccer University. Since 2005 he is the owner of the football club "Orange County Kings " in Laguna Niguel, California.

In May 2006, he organized an international tournament in Los Angeles in football tennis, won the Brazilian. Teams from eight countries, compiled mainly from well-known football players participated in this tournament. The tournament should serve primarily as a prelude to the soccer tennis campaign in the USA.

In August 2011, Dooley was appointed at the premiere of Jürgen Klinsmann as national coach of the national football team of the United States in its interim assistant coach team. In February 2014 he took over the post of chief coach of the Philippine national team.
