Thomas Eastoe Abbott

Thomas Eastoe Abbott ( born November 23, 1786 in East Dereham, Norfolk, † February 18, 1854 in Darlington, County Durham ) was an English poet.

Abbott was a professional officer in the customs administration and wrote mostly occasional poems to semi-official occasions, such as Peace, the mayor of Hull poem dedicated on the occasion of the victory over France in the Sixth Coalition War or poems to the death of Princess Charlotte (1817 ) or the Duke of York ( 1828). WHD Longstaffe, a contemporary commentator, praised Abbott for his simple, reminiscent of Wordsworth verses which speak of " true patriotism" and the spirit of Christianity. After his death, Abbott became yet completely forgotten.
