Thomas Frischknecht

Thomas Frischknecht ( born February 17, 1970 in Vienna) is a retired Swiss cyclist, who was active primarily in the sport of mountain biking. He ran his sport professionally since 1990 and is considered one of the most successful mountain bikers of all time.

Career

Thomas Frischknecht began his career in cross-country cycling. In this discipline, he was junior in 1988, 1991 and 1997 Elite Amateur World Championship runner. He also won twice the bronze medal at the World Championships (1990, 1992) and won a World Cup race for themselves.

His biggest success was winning the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the discipline of Cross Country (XC). Frischknecht 1996 Mountain Bike World Champion as well as in the years 1990, 1991, 1992 and 2001 Vice World Champion. 2002 and 2004 he won the bronze medal in the MTB XC Worlds. He won 17 World Cup races and was the World Cup three times to decide for himself ( 1992, 1993, 1995). His last major success he enjoyed in 2005 when he won the gold medal in the mountain bike marathon world championships.

On September 14, 2008 Thomas Frischknecht ended his career at the age of 38 years with the World Cup Final in Schladming. Overall, he won 18 World Cup races, a brand that previously could only Julien Absalon on offer

Today ( 2013) is Frischknecht together with Andi Seeli Team Manager of the Scott -Swiss Power mountain bike team.
