Thomas Hedge

Thomas Hedge (* June 24, 1844 in Burlington, Iowa, † November 28, 1920 ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1907 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Hedge attended the public schools of his native Denmark, including the Academy. Then he studied until 1861 at the Phillips Academy in Andover (Massachusetts ). During the Civil War, he brought it to an infantry unit to the lieutenant. After the war he continued his studies until 1867 at Yale College. After a subsequent law degree from the Law School of Columbia University in New York and its made ​​in 1869 admitted to the bar he began in Burlington in his new profession in a community practice to work.

Hedge was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1898 he was the first electoral district of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Samuel M. Clark on March 4, 1899. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1907 four related legislative periods. In 1906 he abandoned a bid again.

After the end of his time in the House of Representatives Thomas Hedge again worked as a lawyer. He died in November 1920 in his birthplace of Burlington.
