Thomas Hickey (ice hockey)

Thomas Hickey ( born February 8, 1989 in Calgary, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player on the position of the defender, which is since 2013 in the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Hickey had his first appearances in the Western Hockey League in the 2004/05 season, in which he played five games for the Seattle Thunderbirds. From 2005 to 2009 the defender was part of the squad the Thunderbirds, with whom he reached the playoffs every year. NHL Entry Draft 2007, he was selected fourth by the Los Angeles Kings and signed a few weeks later a contract in Los Angeles. He was then sent back to the WHL, where he was selected in each case in the following two seasons in the WHL First All -Star team. In the 2008 / 09 season, Hickey also completed his first games in the American Hockey League for the farm team of the Kings, the Manchester Monarchs, where he firmly belonged to the squad from 2009 and from the season 2010/11 was active as one of three assistant captains.

On January 15, 2013 Hickey was without having previously played one NHL game, set by the Los Angeles Kings on the Waiverliste and obliged by the New York Islanders. There he succeeded immediately the jump to the NHL squad and he completed his rookie season in 39 games. In his tenth use with a goal in extra time against the Canadiens de Montréal, he managed his first goal in the NHL.

Internationally

Hickey played for the Canadian selection at the U20 World Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009. Both tournaments he won with his team the gold medal.
