Thomas Hylland Eriksen

Thomas Hylland Eriksen ( born February 6, 1962) is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Oslo. He conducts research in Trinidad and Mauritius. His research focuses on identity, identity politics, nationalism and globalization. Eriksen received his doctorate in 1991 and 1995, with 33 years as a professor. He received in 2011 an honorary doctorate of the University of Stockholm.

A significant part of his work has the popularization of social anthropology to the destination. His book Small Places - Large Issues is used as a general introductory book in the Social Anthropology at many Scandinavian and German universities, among at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna. Eriksen also writes regularly for Norwegian newspapers.
