Thomas Jefferson Majors

Thomas Jefferson Majors ( born June 25, 1841 in Libertyville, Jefferson County, Iowa; † July 11, 1932 in Peru, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1878 and 1879 he represented the State of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas majors attended the public schools of his home and then the Nebraska State Normal School. In 1860 he moved to Peru in Nebraska, where he was engaged in trade. During the Civil War he entered the Union army from lieutenant to lieutenant colonel. Overall, it was between June 1861 and June 1866 in the Army.

Majors was a member of the Republican Party. In 1866 he was a member of the last territorial Government and 1867-1869 he was a member of the first legislature of Nebraska. From 1869 to 1872 he worked for the Federal Finance Administration in the District of Nebraska.

In 1876 he was elected as the second deputy alongside Frank Welch in the U.S. House of Representatives. At this time, Nebraska had only one seat in Congress; therefore, he was not accepted in Washington. After Welch's death Thomas Majors won the elections and was due on November 5, 1878 to move into the House of Representatives. He finished until March 3, 1879, Unopened legislature. Valentine in the House of Representatives and were not admitted on the same grounds.

Later majors became director of the Citizens Bank in Peru. Between 1890 and 1894 he was vice- governor of Nebraska. In 1894 he applied unsuccessfully for the post of governor in his home state. However, he was a member and President of the Education Committee of Nebraska. Thomas Majors died in July 1932 in Peru at the age of 91 years.
