Thomas Keneally

Thomas Michael Keneally, AO ( born October 7, 1935 in Sydney, New South Wales, also Tom Keneally ) is an Australian writer. His most famous work is probably Schindler's List ( Schindler 's Ark ) in 1982, the literary basis for the film Schindler's List, for which he won the Booker Prize.

Life and work

He started the Catholic seminary, but left this way before his ordination. He then worked in Sydney as a teacher and from 1968 to 1970 as a lecturer at the University of New England. In addition to his successful novels Keneally wrote also screenplays and non-fiction.

He starred in several films, including a small role in The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith in his own novel, as well as in The Devil's Playground by Fred Schepisi.

Keneally is an advocate of the Australian republic to endorse the breaking of all ties to the British monarchy. In 1993 he published a book with Our Republic on this issue, as well as numerous essays, which appeared on the website of the Australian Republican Movement.

1983 Keneally was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to literature.
