Thomas Kurzhals

Thomas Short neck ( born December 13, 1953 in Ronneburg, † January 2, 2014 in Glauchau ) was a German keyboardist, composer and rock musician. He is best known as a member of the bands Star Combo Meissen and carat.

Life

To the music came short neck by his father, who played in the bismuth in Schalmeiorchester. At eight, he started playing the accordion at, learned notes and rose eleven years around on the piano.

In 1970, short-necked began his five-year study at the Musikhochschule Dresden. During his studies, he played in several amateur bands, including at the Exitas combo from Freiberg. Martin Schreier of the Stern- Combo Meissen was reported that there play a good organist, and bade him off. Short neck was 1972 on Star Combo Meissen as a keyboard player and composer. Among others, he composed several pieces of concept album White Gold and also wrote most of the arrangements.

In the early 1980s the band's name was changed to Star Meissen, which also had a change of style and constant reassignments result. The band was barely accepted by the fans and there were only a few concerts.

In 1984, asked to Henning swank man from Karachi at short neck. He was looking for a keyboard player, who was always available and travel squad was. Swank man had inquired in advance about short neck and found that short-necked fulfilled these conditions. In the same year he joined as a keyboardist to carats. His first appearance with carat led him into the Lower Saxony Bersenbrueck. Others followed, among others, to Cuba and on the Hockenheimring.

Kurzhals built in 1992 his own recording studio in Erkner on and still played at Karat until a replacement was found for him. Until 1999 he produced mainly radio and commercials and worked with Hans -Joachim Preil and Eberhard Cohrs. Later, the studio was converted into a music studio. He produced, among others, for carat, Katrin Sass and the publishing house people and knowledge.

In 1996 he returned to the Star - Combo Meissen. After another short-necked internal problems left in December 2002, the band and devoted himself thenceforth again intensively his music studio. Interim Self, as with Werther Lohse 2006 at the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin at the East Rock Symphony and 2007, the 60th birthday of Thomas Natschinski, followed.

Kurzhals returned again in 2008 back to Star Combo Meissen. With Katrin Frenzel 2009 he produced the song childhood and in 2010 a song for the re-emergence of FC Erzgebirge Aue in the 2nd Bundesliga. From the resulting collaboration was the 2010 Thomas & Friends Kurzhals project with Katrin Frenzel and guitarist Bastian Morgner. For the 2011 released album of the Stern- Combo Meissen life clock Kurzhals contributed most compositions.

On the night of January 2, 2014 Thomas Kurzhals died in Glauchau after a short illness. On February 7, 2014, he was buried with great sympathy of many friends and fans in Erkner.
