Thomas L. Winthrop

Thomas Lindall Winthrop ( born March 6, 1760 New London, Connecticut, † February 22, 1841 in Boston, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1826 and 1833 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Massachusetts.

Career

Thomas Winthrop was born in Connecticut, but grew up mostly in in Boston. He came from the well-known in Massachusetts Dudley - Winthrop family, which also includes John Kerry is one who is a descendant of Winthrop. In 1780 he graduated from the Harvard University. After that, he became a successful merchant. At the same time he embarked on a political career. In his home, he held several local offices. He joined, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. Since 1813, he was a member of the American Antiquarian Society, as its president, he served from 1828 to 1841. He was also a member and president of the Massachusetts Historical Society.

1826 Winthrop was elected Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. This post he held zwischen 1826 and 1833. Yet he was Deputy Governor Levi Lincoln. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he devoted himself to historical matters. He died on February 22, 1841 in Boston.
