Thomas Lynch, Jr.

Thomas Lynch Jr. (* August 5, 1749 in Prince George 's Parish, South Carolina, † 1779 at sea on the way from the United States to the West Indies ) was a lawyer and is considered one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of South Carolina one of the America's founding fathers.

His father was Thomas Lynch. Lynch studied law at Cambridge University in England in 1772 and came back in the overseas colonies. It was 1775 company commander in the 1st South Carolina Regiment and was elected to the Continental Congress. Here Lynch tried to impose a gag order on slavery. He became ill late in 1779 and sailed with his wife to the West Indies. Your ship is lost at sea.

His step- father was the governor of South Carolina, William Moultrie; one of his nephews, James Hamilton, also became governor of that state.
