Thomas M. Klapötke

Thomas Matthias Klapötke ( born February 24, 1961 in Göttingen ) is a German inorganic chemist. Since 1997 he is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Munich.

Life

Klapötke graduated from high school at a high school in Steglitz in Berlin. He studied chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin, where in 1982 he graduated from the bachelor's degree, 1984, he passed his diploma examination. In 1986 he received his doctorate, also at the TU Berlin. In 1990 he completed his habilitation at the TU Berlin. Then he was between 1990 and 1995 lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin. From 1995 to 1997 he was professor of chemistry at the University of Glasgow. In 1997 he accepted a call to a C4 professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the LMU Munich. Calls to the Ruhr- University Bochum and the University of Vienna refused Klapötke.

Klapötke research at the University of Munich with a working group of around 30 employees, mainly relating to explosives; His staff are reviewed by the Constitutional protection. According to media reports Klapötke passes the "only high school chemistry lab in Germany that deals with military technology ." His department has received over one million U.S. $ for the explosives research since 2000 by the U.S. military.
