Thomas Mayr-Harting

Thomas Mayr- Harting ( May 22nd, 1954 in Epsom, Surrey ) is an Austrian diplomat who in 2011 Head of the Delegation of the European Union ( EU ambassador ) to the United Nations in New York since October. Previously, he was since December 2008 Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations in New York and thus from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2010, representatives of Austria in the UN Security Council. In November 2009, he was President of the Security Council. In his capacity as Austrian ambassador to the UN, he was also Vice- President of the 66th General Assembly of the United Nations.

Life

Thomas Mayr- Harting received his doctorate in 1977 at the University of Vienna Dr. iur. From 1977 to 1978 he studied at the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium ). In 1978 Mayr- Harting the Diploma of the Hague Academy of International Law.

In the Austrian Diplomatic Service Mayr- Harting joined 1979 Throughout his career, he worked among others in the following areas. :

From 2003 to 2008, Ambassador Thomas Mayr - Harting was Dr. Political Director ( Head of the Political Section), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2008 he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Austrian Development Agency ( ADA).

Thomas Mayr- Harting is married to Marie Elisabeth, born in Stolberg- Stolberg and father of three children. He is a brother of the British historian Henry Mayr- Harting and a grandson of the Austro -Czechoslovak legal scholar and politician Robert Mayr- Harting.
