Thomas Moran

Thomas Moran ( born February 12, 1837 in Bolton, Lancashire, † August 25, 1926 in Santa Barbara, California ) was a painter of the Hudson River School. 1871-72 he took part in the territory of present-day Yellowstone National Park at the Hayden expedition. He was the first held on the landscape as a pencil sketch or water color images. Moran's works were presented to members of Congress. He contributed not insignificantly to the creation of Yellowstone National Park in 1872 at. The Mt Moran in Grand Teton National Park was named after the painter.

He was the brother of the painter Edward Moran.
