Thomas Patterson (Pennsylvania politician)

Thomas Patterson ( born October 1, 1764 in Little Britain, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, † November 16, 1841 at Patterson's Mills, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1817 and 1825 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Patterson was a half brother of Congressman John Patterson (1771-1848) from Ohio. In 1778 he moved with his parents to Patterson's Mills in Washington County. He attended the public schools of his respective home. He then worked in agriculture and as a grain miller. During the British - American War of 1812 he was a brigadier general in the state militia. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic- Republican Party. In the 1820s he joined the movement to the future President Andrew Jackson.

In the congressional elections of 1816 Patterson was in the twelfth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Aaron Lyle on March 4, 1817. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1825 four legislative sessions. In 1824 he gave up another candidacy. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Thomas Patterson took his previous activities on again. He died on November 16, 1841 near Patterson's Mills.
