Thomas Rupprath

Thomas Rupp Rath ( born March 16, 1977 in Neuss, Germany ) is a former German swimmer.

Thomas Rupp Rath is married, has a son and a daughter, and lives in Rostock.

Career

Thomas Rupp Rath learned to swim at the age of 7 years in Neuss swimming club. He is still a member of the club, but now starts for the SC Empor Rostock in 2000, previously launched Rupprath for water lovers Hanover. Since September 2009 he has also right to start for the SV Würzburg 05, with his team he then for the first time won the German team championship. In 1990 he took part for the first time at the German Youth Championships. The first great victories he won at the German Youth Championships in 1994 when he won the competitions over 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley. These successes he could repeat in 1995 and was also the 200 m backstroke, 100 m & win the 200m butterfly. In the years following, also successes were added at the international level. The first of these was the European champion over 100 m butterfly at the short course (25 m) in 1996. Having succeeded in making 2002 and 2003 several world records in the years (50m & 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 100m individual medley ), he won at the World Championships in Barcelona with a new world record in the 50m backstroke his first world title. In 2004, he won this item on the short track. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 he was with Steffen Driesen, Jens Kruppa and Lars Conrad competing over 4 × 100 m medley successful and won the silver medal in a European record time ( 3:33,62 ). Also at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, he took, but without success, in part. He commented on his own performance with " This had nothing to do with competitive sports ."

In 2005, Rupp Rath was elected in Germany for Swimmer of the Year ahead of second -placed Steffen Deibler. 26 June 2010 Rupp Rath ended his career.

From 14 to 29 January 2011, he participated in the reality show I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here! the TV station RTL part, which he finished in third place.

During the Olympic Games in London, he commented with Matthias Stach the swimming competitions for the TV channel, euro sport.
