Thomas S. Ray

Thomas Shelby Ray (better known as Tom Ray, born 1954 ) is an American theoretical biologist and computer scientist.

Thomas S. Ray has a master's and a doctorate from Harvard University for biology. In the years 1990-2001 he has dealt with artificial life and artificial evolution on the computer and it has developed the program Tierra. Tierra is a virtual world in which selbstreplizierbare programs change and evolve through a simulated evolution.

Since August 1998 he has been professor of zoology and computer science at the University of Oklahoma.
