Thomas Schmidt

Thomas Schmidt ( born February 18, 1976 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a former German canoeist and current official. It was 2000 Olympic champion in canoe slalom.

Career

Schmidt was at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Olympic champion in the men One kayak. 2004 in Athens, he finished fifth. At the World Championships he won a title when he became world champion team in 2002. Thrice Schmidt was European Champion with the team. Additionally, Schmidt won eight German Championships as an adult and two more at junior level.

2004 Schmidt ended his career as a competitive athlete and completed his studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Augsburg from. Since then, Schmidt has worked as an engineer, but also acted as a co- commentator for the TV Euro Sport at canoe slalom events. In November 2008 he was elected to the slalom Commission of the International Canoe Federation ( ICF).

Thomas Schmidt is married and has one daughter. He lives in Augsburg and is a member of Kanu Schwaben Augsburg, the canoe sports department of TSV Schwaben Augsburg.
