Thomas Sébillet

Thomas Sébillet (* 1512, † 1589 ) was a French poet, poeticists and Romanist.

Life and work

Sébillet (or Sebillet ) was a pupil and friend of Clément Marot. He is best known for his poetics of 1548, which gave the impetus to the program of the Pléiade formulated Défense et illustration de la langue française of Joachim du Bellay ( 1549). Du Bellay displeased the detailed treatment of the ( outdated) marotischen poetic forms. In contrast, overall was similar to that of Du Bellay in Sébillets much emphasis on the poetic inspiration ( craft based skills ) forward-looking and his poetic conception.

The linguistics owes Sébillet important observations on language reality of his time.
