Thomas Strothotte

Thomas Strothotte ( born October 23, 1959 in Regina, Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian computer scientist with German roots and president of the Kühne Logistics University.

Life and work

Strothotte studied at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, physics and computer science, and in 1980 there with the Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 with a Master of Science degree. From 1981 to 1982 he worked as a graduate student at the University of Stuttgart, 1982-1983, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec City and from 1983 to 1984 in Ontario at the University of Waterloo. He received his doctorate on at McGill University with a dissertation on the subject Temporal Constructs for on Algorithmic Programming Language. After that he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at INRIA ( Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique ) Rocquencourt near Paris, but it seemed from 1985 to 1989 as a research associate of the Department of dialogue systems of the Faculty of computer science again at the University of Stuttgart and his habilitation in 1989th his research fields include the ratio of images to text and language, the abstraction processes in computer graphics and graphics in the human-computer interaction.

Subsequently, he was a visiting scientist at the IBM Scientific Center in Heidelberg. A year later, in 1990, he was appointed Professor of Interactive Systems at the Free University of Berlin.

In 1993 he was appointed to a Professorship for Computer Graphics and Interactive Systems at the Otto -von- Guericke- University Magdeburg. From 1994 to 1996 he was there also dean of his faculty, 1996-1998 Vice President for Planning and Budget. July to September 1998, he had then provisionally held the position as rector of this university. Strothotte was also instrumental in the initiation of the diploma program at the University of Magdeburg Computational, which was an example for courses at other universities.

From March 2001 to September 2002, he headed also the IT branch of the state government of the State of Saxony- Anhalt.

In 2004, he graduated from Columbia University in New York City and the London Business School Master of Business Administration ( MBA).

Between 2006 and 2008 had Strothotte as rector of the University of Rostock. In a concept called " profile lines " he sought a focus of teaching and research activities in interdisciplinary areas of focus. However, the associated austerity measures were highly controversial especially in the areas affected.

After it became known that Strothotte had applied to the principal items of the University of Regensburg, he resigned at the insistence of the Senate as rector of the University of Rostock December 31, 2008 in September 2008. April 1, 2009 Strothotte took office as president of the University of Regensburg, which he held until March 2013.

Volunteering founded Thomas Strothotte as chairman of a carrier 's charitable association, the International Primary School Pierre Trudeau (2000) and the International School Pierre Trudeau (2004) in Magdeburg.
