Thomas Turton

Thomas Turton ( born February 5, 1780 in York, Yorkshire, England; † January 7, 1864 in London ) was an English mathematician and Anglican theologian and Bishop of Ely.

Turton was 1822-1827 Lucasischer Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

From 1827 to 1842 he was Regius Professor of Divinity. Turton was also dean of Peterborough from 1830 to 1842, Dean of Westminster from 1842 to 1845, 1845 to 1864 Bishop of Ely and composer of Anglican hymns.
