Thomas von Heesen ( born October 1, 1961 in Hoexter ) is a German football coach and former football player.

Career

Player

As youth players played Heesen first football club DJK his hometown Albaxen, then moved to VfL Hoexter and went with 17 years on 1 FC Paderborn. In 1980, he was obliged by HSV and graduated from high school, like many other HSV- youth players at the high school Heidberg in Hamburg- Long Horn. During his active football career, the midfielder with Hamburger SV, for whom he played 368 of his 378 Bundesliga games, was twice German Champion and one DFB Cup winner. He celebrated the greatest success with the HSV in 1983 by winning the European Cup of Champions.

In summer 1994, returned by Heesen in the East Westphalian homeland and signed for Arminia Bielefeld. The club played into the newly introduced Regionalliga West / Southwest, the third- highest division in German football. Arminia Bielefeld managed as a table first in the 1994/95 season promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and the midfielder returned to with seven goals in 26 inserts an important contribution. Here succeeded by Heesen with Arminia Bielefeld immediate ascent ( " direct walkover " ) in the Premier League. He even scored his 100th Bundesliga goal and ended on 31 May 1997, he active player career.

Coach and sports director

In the 1997/98 season was by Heesen Team Manager at Arminia Bielefeld. During the 1998/99 season, he took over as head coach the successor of Ernst Middendorp and led the meantime relegated club back to the Bundesliga. After the rise of Arminia he became sports director at Hannover 96, he held this office only until December 1999 held. On 5 December 2000 he succeeded Klaus Toppmöller the second division club 1.FC Saarbrücken. The Saarland he trained until 21 August 2001. Starting September 17, 2001 he was back at the Bielefeld Arminia under contract, this time as Director of Sport. He held until 2005, in the meantime, he served from 17 February to 1 March 2004 as interim coach of Arminia this office. On 12 May 2005 he finally took over as coach at the Bielefeldern and secured on the last two days of the 2004/05 season in the league. In February 2007, he resigned from this position after the Arminia nine games without a win in a row remained. Just a few weeks earlier, he announced to want to leave " Alm " at the end of the season. After the dismissal of the coach Hans Meyer von Heesen was on 12 February 2008 official coach of the 1st FC Nuremberg, but could not prevent the descent of the FCN to the 2nd Bundesliga. After a slow start in the 2nd Bundesliga 2008/ 09 he was advised in Nuremberg in the criticism, especially with President Michael A. Roth, who accused him of a lack of identification with the club. On August 28, 2008, there Heesen his resignation. He then took over in September 2008, the Cypriot club Apollon Limassol where he was, however, released in January 2010 after 16 months because of persistent failure.

Since December 2006, Heesen DFB license as a football coach.

29 November 2011 Thomas von Heesen was coach of Kapfenberg SV in the Austrian Bundesliga and succeeds Werner Gregoritsch. The club was the winter break four points adrift of the relegation zone. As the distance three games had grown before end of season to nine points and the descent practically, it was clear the contract was extended with the coach until 2015 to go out with him to rebuild and re-emergence in the second division, but the success with Kapfenberg was missing. After 16 rounds in the First League in the season 2012/2013 Kapfenberg had recorded only two victories in seven defeats and draws. Kapfenberg threatened with relegation to the Regionalliga. As a consequence, Thomas von Heesen was released on 10 November 2012 as the coach.
