Thomas Walter (botanist)

Thomas Walter ( * 1740 in Hampshire, England; † January 18, 1789 in St. John 's Parish, Berkeley County, South Carolina) was a North American botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Walter".

Walter was born in Hampshire in England, but emigrated at a young age to South Carolina, where he remained for the rest of his life. His work Flora caroliniana was probably the first serious written in North America Flora description.

He was a friend of the botanist John Fraser ( botanist ).

A named after Thomas Walter orchid Cypripedium reginae species is the (1788 ). His credit more than 1000 botanical original descriptions.
