Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr

Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr (* July 9, 1577, † June 7, 1618 ) was the second Governor of Virginia Colony and named for the U.S. state of Delaware, the Delaware River and the Indian tribe Delaware (actually Lenni Lenape ).

De La Warr was appointed governor in 1609 and 1610 reached Virginia. There he met discouraged settlers who happened to be in the First English Powhatankrieg and wanted to return to England. He was able to persuade them to stay in Virginia, and sent Sir Samuel Argall returned to England to bring support and needed goods and goods subject to Virginia. De La Warr returned to England and joined always to the preservation of the colony. He died in 1618 during his second voyage to Virginia.
