Thompson Benton Ferguson

Thompson Benton Ferguson (* March 17, 1857 in Des Moines, Iowa, † February 14, 1921 in Oklahoma City ) was an American politician of the Republican Party. He was from 1901 to 1906 Governor of Oklahoma.

Life

Born In Des Moines, he moved to Kansas in his younger years. He was a teacher and a Methodist minister. In 1889 he participated in the Oklahoma Land Run ( previous colonization of protected Indian lands ) part and secured a claim in the area of Oklahoma City. But Ferguson moved but again to Kansas, where he worked as a writer and editor. There he was the recognized leader of the Republican Party of his state. Due to his party work but he came back to Oklahoma and was 1901-1906 Governor of Oklahoma Territory, where he also took over the leadership of his party in Oklahoma. After his tenure, he moved to Watonga and headed a newspaper until his death in 1921.
