Thong Pha Phum District

Amphoe Thong Pha Phum ( Thai: อำเภอ ทองผาภูมิ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the northern part of Kanchanaburi province. The Kanchanaburi province to the west of Central Thailand on the border with Myanmar.

Geography

The neighboring districts are (from west clockwise): the Tanintharyi Division in Myanmar, Amphoe Sangkhla Buri Kanchanaburi Province, Amphoe Umphang Tak Province, Amphoe Ban Rai of Uthai Thani province, and Amphoe Si Sawat and Sai Yok again from the Kanchanaburi province.

The main water resource is the Maenam Khwae Yai ( Khwae Yai River ).

Economy

Dams

  • Khao Laem - the plant produces about 300 kW; on the shore of the reservoir there is an old temple of the mon with Buddha shrines. The electricity from the hydropower plant is supplied to Bangkok.

History

The county Thong Pha Phum was established in 1902 initially as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) of Sangkhla Buri district Wang Ka. In 1939, Wang Ka was renamed Sangkhla Buri, simultaneously Ka Wang Thong Pha Phum. On May 20, 1941 Thong Pha Phum got the full Amphoe status, simultaneously Sangkhlaburi was downgraded to a sub-district. At that time, the county consisted at first of the six tambon Tha Khanun, Hin Dat, Dika, Chalae, Pilok and Linthin.

Management

The circle is divided into seven subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 44 villages ( Muban ).

The county has three small towns ( Tambon thesaban ):

  • Thong Pha Phum ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ทองผาภูมิ ) consisting of parts of the tambon Tha Khanun,
  • Tha Khanun ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่า ขนุน ) consisting of other parts of the tambon Tha Khanun,
  • Sahakon Nikhom ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สหกรณ์ นิคม ) consisting of parts of the tambon Sahakon Nikhom.

In addition, there are seven " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
