Work

Motifs and themes

Knobloch paints mostly everyday objects, spaces and scenes from the immediate area. They belong to the familiar reality and are transmitted through the act of painting in the reality of the image.

The selected objects are at the center of the image and are often surrounded by other objects in the foreground. Other images show landscapes or parts of scenes. Whether single item or an entire constellation, " there are always sideshows and fragments, very limited, individually -seen excerpts of the visible world ."

His highly focused representations act far and near at the same time. The gesture of distancing is for the painter not pessimistic, but rather observing and researching. There is a certain longing, but also affection and high interest in the diverse visual appearances of the object and the outer world.

Picture compositions and technique

The image composition works on the principle of the cut. The disused snapshots present selected fragments of reality, or even parts of objects that occur without any context. The concentrated consideration of individual objects or landscapes can come into the picture without distracting details. " The brush of the painter has to send the power of visual and narrative Störelemete into exile outside the canvas em space ".

The rigorous, at first glance purely photo-realistic style of painting is not to deceive the viewer: often enough, it is interrupted by seemingly random elements, is thus about in the abstract dimension and wins every now and then to remove surrealist trains. In the earlier paintings often encountered unexpected places where bright colors are smeared across the canvas or shaken in light drops. The recent works have thin, precise, straight lines, which are either scattered all over the image area, or along recognizable image elements form.

The characteristic concentration on an object and its appearance caused Knobloch to investigate the selected motifs in series. The viewing direction is minimally displaced, or it will be changed from a general overview to close-up. In addition, change colors and tones, depending on the time of day, and the whole environment of the season accordingly. This would be perhaps the only references to the temporal dimension, the only remains schematically even in these cases. Mostly, however, the image is removed from happening a temporary connection.

Aestheticization and associations

Knobloch's images evoke an inward deceleration of cognition. The artist always returns to familiar places, takes familiar objects on again.

Personal experiences with the selected motifs are not revealed in the image. Knobloch constellations are less narrative than observativ. They show everything and leave much open. Move to reflect and trigger associations.

Knobloch opened the aesthetic side of objects and places that are not aesthetically remarkable in the current sense. These properties develop the motives only in the course of reflection as an image subject. In the context of this aestheticization is not only the inherent power of the material world opens up, but also the potential of painting to make this force visible. His paintings are " Plea for slowness and concentration, for the deepening and widening of everyday gaze by pausing and of course for the possibilities of painting, the banal subject matter through aesthetic quality of their mundane context to tear ."

Knobloch's works can be found among others in the collections of the New Masters Gallery of the Dresden State Art Collections in Albertinum.
