Thorndale is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Caln Township, Chester County in the southeast of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

The area is 4.7 square kilometers (1.8 square miles) in size and had (2000) 3561 inhabitants. The place is located on the Philadelphia to Harrisburg Main Line and has a train stop for the regional trains of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority ( SEPTA ), whose line R5 there has its western terminus.
