Thornton (West Yorkshire)

Thornton is a village in the Metropolitan Borough City of Bradford in the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire, England (United Kingdom) with 5000 inhabitants ( Census 2011). The village is situated in the South Pennines on the western edge of the city of Bradford, which it was incorporated in 1899, and has been part of the municipal reorganization in 1974 for City of Bradford.

Nationwide gained fame as the birthplace of Thornton four Brontë siblings in the 19th century. After her father, Patrick Brontë (1777 - 1861), had in 1815 accepted a position as pastor in Thornton, the young family lived in the five years before they reached in April 1820 by Haworth moved.
