Thoroughfare Gap
Thoroughfare Gap is the seventh solo studio album by American rock musician Stephen Stills. It was released in September 1978 as his third and final album for Columbia Records. The album reached # 83 on the Billboard 200 charts.
On the album there are five pieces, which started Stills in disco style including the single Can not Get No Booty and You Can not Dance Alone and We Will Go On. In the latter piece, as well as in the song Beaucoup Yumbo is also interspersed with stills of his - apart marriage with the French singer-songwriter Veronique Sanson - already crumbling. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979.
The album includes cover versions of next Midnight Rider and the Buddy Holly classic Not Fade Away. Among the best known pieces of the album is one of Thoroughfare Gap, a folk-country number, sings in the stills of a life as a train ride through the vastness of America. This piece was also published on the Crosby, Stills & Nash 4- CD box CSN (1991 ), which also contained a best-of selection of a solo artist in addition to the greatest hits of the group. In addition to long -time musical companions like Joe Lala ( percussion), Mike Finnigan (piano, keyboards) and Joe Vitale (drums ) can be heard as a guest vocalist on the Andy Gibb album.
In reviews, the album was controversial. While the allmusic guide it as bad attempt Stills ' designated to adapt the dance and disco music and cover versions as " lame " described, praised the contemporary review of Billboard magazine Stills ' vocals and guitar. There also his lyrics and the cover versions were supported. The album was less successful than Stills ' previous studio albums and his releases with Crosby, Stills, Nash ( & Young): Still in the previous year the album CSN had (not to be confused with the eponymous compilation 1991 ) # 2 on the charts reached. The relative lack of success of Thoroughfare Gap meant that stills up to 1984 did not publish any more solo record. The album is no longer placed at Columbia, but more as a 2- CD set (with its other two Columbia albums Stills Illegal Stills and located together on the first CD ) available.
