Thorvald Asvaldsson

Thorvald ( Þorvaldur ) Asvaldsson was the son of Ásvald Ulfsson, father of Erik the Red and Leif Eriksson grandfather. He was born in Norway in Stavanger, but spent the time of the reign of King Harold I in exile and was banished to the 970 Thing for a murder in Holmgang to Iceland.
